All About Me...
My name is Kevin Joest. I was born and raised in Louisville Kentucky but am attending school at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I’ve been writing music since my freshman year of high school. During my senior year, four of my works for percussion ensemble were performed by the Louisville Youth Band Percussion Ensemble. Most recently, my work is being performed by the Middle Tennessee Beginning Steel Band and Percussion Ensemble.
My eventual goal is to write music for movies. This has been a dream ever since my junior year of high school. I love movies, and I love music, so the job fits me well.
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred other things
You have not dreamed of: wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor ever eagle flew -
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
~John Gillespie Magee, Jr.
Music melts the world away. Close your eyes and there is beauty in
the blackness.
